Well, this is awkward. You probably searched “How do you sleep with someone who’s hot?” That’s not what we’re about here at Schnelle Heating & Air and, frankly, you should be spending your time doing something else. We’re trying to talk about what the perfect temperature for sleeping is, or how to find out what your perfect temperature is.
Finding the perfect temperature is a little tricky, because you have what the pros say, and then you have what actually works for you. There are also variables to consider. Like what if you’re sleeping with someone who really likes to keep things hot in the bedroom, but you don’t like things that hot? You’ll end up compromising. Of course if you live alone, you can keep things pretty cold and no one can stop you.
WHAT THE PROS SAY
According to several name brand sources, the perfect temperature for sleeping is 60-67 degrees. Keep in mind these are some of the same people that recommend things like keeping sleep logs and not looking at your phone in bed. So what do they know, really?
Apparently, your circadian rhythm can be disrupted at temperatures above 74 and below 54 degrees. Typically you maintain the REM stage better in cooler temperatures. The best solution to this problem is to get a good, programmable thermostat from Schnelle Heating & Air. You can keep the house one temperature for awake hours when you’re milling about, but then drop the temp down for sleep if you care for your health.
Cooler temperatures are also imperative for people that need to regenerate significantly through the night, like athletes, and who struggle with sleeping due to insomnia or apnea. Interesting, though, some studies suggest that elderly people actually benefit from keeping things hot in the bedroom.
There are options to help with creating or maintaining the perfect temperature:
- Gel pads
- Wicking Sheets
- Zone temperature control
- Finding a partner that isn’t cold hearted natured
